Community Development Corporation of Brownsville (CDCB)
2008 Hurricane Relief Cycle Awardee
Community Development Corporation of Brownsville (CDCB) was awarded a $50,000 grant under the 2008 hurricane relief funding cycle of the Texas Foundations Fund. The grant was used to perform rehabilitation and/or critical repair to 10 owner-occupied homes affected by Hurricane Dolly in Cameron County. Critical repair and rehabilitation are defined as construction work necessary to alleviate hurricane damage to a home that without repair would cause a health or safety problem for the individual or family. The grant was used to assist individuals at or below 50% of the area median family income.
One family assisted by CDCB was that of Maria Dolores Medrano. The roof on Ms. Medrano's home sustained damage during Hurricane Dolly. With funds from the grant through the Foundations Fund, CDCB was able to repair Ms. Medrano's roof, along with damage sustained at 9 other homes in the area.
