Self Help Housing of East Texas
2008 Hurricane Relief Cycle Awardee
Self Help Housing of East Texas received a $50,000 grant under the hurricane relief funding cycle of the Texas Foundations Fund. They used the funds to perform critical repairs and rehabilitation to owner-occupied homes affected by Hurricane Ike in Newton and Jasper Counties. The critical repairs and/or rehabilitation performed were necessary in order to alleviate hurricane damage to a home that were causing a health or safety problem for the individual or family living there. The grant was used to assist those individuals at or below 50% of the area median family income who were affected by the storm. Self Help Housing was able to make repairs to 7 single family homes using the grant awarded by the Foundations Fund. Below are testimonials and photos of the work that was accomplished using the funds.

Within my search for hurricane repair help, I have been put through the run around every step I have taken....Truman Dougherty brought me in to talk with the staff and I have blessings of actually getting the help that I have needed for so long...I support the mission of Self Help Housing of East Texas, if it were not for the help from them I would still have a big worry on my mind for not haivng a safe home to live in.
