This week, we are spotlighting Heather Whittier, TSAHC's Single Family Compliance Coordinator. In this role, Heather supports the Compliance team as they review mortgage loan documentation and respond to questions from lenders and home buyers across the state.
Below is her interview.
Tell us a little bit about what you do here at TSAHC. What do you enjoy most about your job?
I came to work at TSAHC in the spring of 2021. I started out as a temp in the single family compliance department before being hired on full time in September 2021. I currently serve as the Single Family Compliance Coordinator.
I love that my job directly impacts people in a very positive way. I can approve a loan and five minutes later the homebuyer is given keys. It’s great to know what you do has such an impact on people and communities.
Outside of work, what do you like to do in your free time?
I’m a huge movie buff and a big reader. So, if I’m not doing one then I’m most likely doing the other.
What’s your favorite genre for books and movies?
For books, fantasy and horror. My favorite book is The Hobbit - I can open it to any page and know exactly what’s happening.
For movies, anything that’s good. My favorite movie is Spirited Away. If you haven’t seen it, you really should. It’s one of the most beautiful films ever made.
Do you have a bucket list? What are some (or one) of the things you hope to accomplish?
I do! One thing I want to do is drive from Austin to Anchorage. It’s roughly 3 days.
What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?
I don’t know if it’s my greatest, but in the last 15 months I’ve walked about 5 million steps.
Do you have a favorite quote or piece of advice that you live by?
“I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.” - Douglas Adams
Tell us something about yourself that many people might not know.
I’m an avid weightlifter.
And, last but not least, if you could meet anyone from history or witness an historical event, who (or what) would you choose and why?
I would go to the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848 - the birthplace for American feminism. I would love to walk around and get to know the women who didn’t make it into the history books.
