The grant will support a week-long training workshop for nonprofit housing counselors in 2016, offered as part of the Texas Statewide Homebuyer Education Program (TSHEP). The workshop will offer two courses concurrently, giving counselors the opportunity to choose the course that best fits their training needs. The first course is a five-day course focusing on homeownership counseling methods, and the second is a three-day course aimed at helping counselors improve their credit counseling techniques.
This support from the BBVA Compass Foundation will help TSAHC subsidize 90% of each counselor's tuition costs and offer scholarships to help out-of-town counselors with hotel expenses.
TSAHC was created in 1994 as a self-sustaining nonprofit housing organization. At TSAHC we believe that every Texan deserves the opportunity to live in safe, decent and affordable housing. Our programs target the housing needs of low-income families and other underserved populations in Texas who do not have acceptable housing options through conventional financial channels. All TSAHC programs are offered statewide, with special attention given to rural areas and other select target areas.
