TSAHC Awarded $40,000 Grant from Bank of America

TSAHC will utilize this award to support the Texas Statewide Homebuyer Education Program (TSHEP), which provides affordable training opportunities to housing counselors in Texas.

With this continued support from Bank of America, TSAHC will provide a week-long training opportunity for Texas housing counselors in early 2014. Bank of America's contribution will allow TSAHC to cover 90% of all attendees' tuition costs to ensure the training is affordable for our counseling partners.

TSAHC Receives $5,000 Award from the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation

This grant will support home repairs and accessibility modifications funded through our Texas Foundations Fund program.

TSAHC has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation to support our Texas Foundations Fund grant-making program. Through the Texas Foundations Fund, TSAHC partners with local nonprofits and rural government entities to support critical housing services, including home repairs, accessibility modifications and supportive housing services such as case management and adult education, provided to very low-income Texas households.

Down Payment Assistance Now Available to More Families

TSAHC announces several changes to its two down payment assistance programs.

Effective June 24, 2013, the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation is implementing important changes to its two down payment assistance programs, the Homes for Texas Heroes Home Loan Program and Home Sweet Texas Home Loan Program. Changes include, mortgage loan refinances, two levels of down payment assistance and new eligible groups. Click here for more details.

TSAHC Receives $2,500 Grant from Frost Bank

Frost Bank awards $2,500 to help TSAHC continue to provide the Texas Financial Toolbox in 2013.

TSAHC has received a $2,500 grant from Frost Bank to support our Texas Financial Toolbox. In addition to connecting Texas consumers with homeownership and financial resources in their communities, our Texas Financial Toolbox offer consumers an online mortgage calculator tool. Our mortgage calculator provides step by step information about the home buying process and is updated daily with mortgage interest rates for Texas as they relate to FICO scores. This award from Frost Bank will help us continue to provide this information to consumers in 2013.

Great News For First-time Homebuyers

First-time homebuyers using TSAHC's Mortgage Credit Certificate Program to purchase a home are now eligible for a larger benefit.

TSAHC has increased the Mortgage Credit Certificate rate for first-time homebuyers from 35% to 40%. This will help homeowners increase their ability to achieve the full benefit of an annual $2,000 federal tax credit available to them each year under the Mortgage Credit Certificate Program. TSAHC receives $5,000 grant from Insperity to support the Texas Financial Toolbox in 2013.

TSAHC has received a $5,000 grant from Insperity to support our Texas Financial Toolbox, an online resource that connects Texas consumers with high quality homeownership and financial education programs in their communities. The Texas Financial Toolbox was made possible in part by a 2011 grant from Insperity, and we're thrilled to continue our partnership with Insperity to help Texans improve their finances, purchase a home or avoid foreclosure.

One of the most beneficial aspects of our Texas Financial Toolbox is the online mortgage calculator tool. In addition to providing step by step information about the home buying process, our mortgage calculator is updated daily with mortgage interest rates for Texas as they relate to FICO scores. This award from Insperity will help us continue to provide this information to consumers in 2013.

The Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) of Dallas has awarded TSAHC a $100,000 grant as part of its State HFA Education Grant program. TSAHC will utilize these funds to support our 2026 Housing Connection training for housing counselors, as well as new educational resources for consumers interested in purchasing a home.

FHLB of Dallas has been a long-time supporter of TSAHC's programs. In addition to providing grant and sponsorship support for our training programs for housing nonprofits and consumers, FHLB has also provided capital to support and grow our Texas Housing Impact Fund lending program for developers. We continue to be grateful for their support and partnership!

Announcement of Public Meetings on the Housing Revitalization Plan - North Houston Highway Improvement Project

TSAHC is hosting a series of public meetings alongside AB Land Planning regarding the Housing Revitalization Plan that is being prepared to support the revitalization of four Houston neighborhoods impacted by the North Houston Highway Improvement Project (NHHIP), a multi-billion dollar transportation project that will expand and realign sections of Interstate I-45 in North Houston.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has tasked TSAHC with administering $28.5 million in grant funding to support affordable housing initiatives in communities affected by TxDOT’s NHHIP. In 2024, TSAHC selected AB Land Planning as its consultant through a Request for Proposal process to develop a comprehensive housing needs assessment of the impacted communities and ultimately a Housing Revitalization Plan to guide the distribution of the grant funds.

TSAHC published a Housing Needs Assessment from its consultant in early 2026, the first component of the Housing Revitalization Plan. We anticipate that the full draft Housing Revitalization Plan will be available on April 21st once its release for public comment has been approved by TSAHC's Board of Directors. The below meetings are being held in each of the four impacted neighborhoods to inform the public about the contents of the draft Housing Revitalization Plan and collect public feedback. AB Land Planning will provide a brief presentation about the draft Housing Revitalization Plan and will be available to answer questions.

TSAHC Honors its Top Lenders and Loan Officers for 2025

The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation (TSAHC) helped 9,554 households purchase a home in 2025, in partnership with a dedicated network of mortgage companies and loan officers.

The Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation (TSAHC) helped 9,554 households purchase a home in 2025, in partnership with a dedicated network of mortgage companies and loan officers. In total, TSAHC provided $2.3 billion in mortgage loans and $85.6 million in down payment assistance to home buyers this past year. Additionally, 1,420 of the 9,554 families who received assistance were also able to access a Mortgage Credit Certificate, a mortgage interest tax credit specifically for first-time home buyers that reduces their federal income taxes every year.

TSAHC offers two loan programs to make purchasing a home more affordable for low and moderate-income home buyers: Homes for Texas Heroes and Home Sweet Texas Home. Both provide fixed-rate mortgage loans, down payment assistance, and federal mortgage interest tax credits. Mortgage companies and loan officers play a critical role in helping home buyers access these programs by spreading awareness and helping them complete the mortgage application process.

TSAHC would like to recognize the three loan officers who helped the most families purchase a home with our programs in 2025. With more than 2,952 loan officers originating at least one TSAHC loan in 2025, this is an extraordinary accomplishment.

Dina Pierson with Supreme Lending assisted 103 home buyers in 2025, originating more than $25.79 million in mortgage loans. This is Ms. Pierson's third year as a top three TSAHC loan officer. Ms. Pierson is based in the Dallas area and serves home buyers statewide.

Clarissa Hernandez with Waterstone Mortgage assisted 83 home buyers in 2025, originating more than $21.20 million in mortgage loans. This is Clarissa's second year to receive an award as a top three TSAHC loan officer. Serving home buyers statewide, Clarissa is based in Austin.

Samantha Bustos with New American Funding, LLC assisted 68 home buyers in 2025, and originated more than $17.60 million in mortgage loans. This is Ms. Bustos’ first year to receive an award as a top three TSAHC loan officer. Based in Austin, Samantha serves home buyers statewide.

CMG Home Loans assisted 583 home buyers for a total of $144.5 million in mortgage loans.

Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation assisted 551 home buyers for a total of $134 million in mortgage loans.

Everett Financial, Inc. dba Supreme Lending assisted 504 home buyers for a total $139 million in mortgage loans.
