June is National Homeownership Month, and to celebrate, TSAHC is doing a special blog series every Monday in June. Each Monday, TSAHC will share the story of a family or individual who used our programs to purchase a home.
And on Monday, June 29th, TSAHC will conduct a drawing to select the five winners of our Mortgage-Free Monday raffle. Each of the lucky winners will receive one month’s mortgage payment courtesy of TSAHC.
Meet Ellie Moss
This week we are featuring Ellie Moss, who recently purchased her first home in Longview. Ellie was kind enough to share her story on how TSAHC’s programs helped the single mother purchase a home in a neighborhood close to her son’s school.
I am a single mother with a 14 year old son who plays football and baseball. When I began looking for a home, my most important consideration was doing what was best for him. I wanted him to continue playing with familiar kids.
That meant staying in the same neighborhood, so he could go to the same school. But when I began looking for a home, I couldn’t find a home I could afford in the neighborhood. Moving to a new school seemed selfish to me.
With this in mind, I began exploring other options. An Internet search led me to TSAHC’s web site and down payment assistance program. That program made it possible for me to purchase a home in my neighborhood and for my son to stay at his school.
TSAHC’s web site is where I also found my lender, Tina Chumley. I can’t say enough good things about Tina. She was fantastic and bent over backwards for my family. I found my REALTOR® Chelcy Gilliland with Real Estate Marketing through a friend at work. Chelcy was great and very knowledgeable about the home buying process.
I took the eHome America online course through Business & Community Lenders of Texas. Since I’m located in Longview, this was the most convenient option for me. The course was very informative and provided me with the information I needed to make educated decisions throughout the home buyer process.
This is the first home I have owned. To be honest, I never realized the importance of homeownership until after we were settled. I love the little things – like when my son marks his height on the door, we don’t have to paint over it.
My son loves the spacious deck to host summer barbecues and that he has a game room. My favorite part is the large lot. Land is very important to us because of my Native American ancestry. As a descendent of the Creek Indian tribe from Oklahoma, I take great pride in tending to and caring for the land I own.
Home buying can be a daunting challenge, but I feel very blessed with my experience. I am very grateful to the guidance Tina and Chelcy provided during the home buying process and TSAHC for the program that made the dream of owning a home a reality.
