A Holiday Message from TSAHC President David Long
As I reflect on 2022, I’m reminded of how important partnerships are in carrying out our mission. I appreciate that our partnerships have remained strong, and your support has remained steadfast despite the uncertainty of the past several years.
This year ushered in a return to normalcy, but it also presented a new set of challenges. Thanks to your support and the talents of our TSAHC team, we’re poised to respond and continue to meet the housing needs of Texans.
We understand that in this environment you can’t remain static. That’s why we strive to adapt our programs to meet Texas’ ever changing housing demand. At the root of our success is your partnership and support, which continue to reinforce our strong foundation.
Speaking of success, I’m happy to share our highlights from 2022.
TSAHC’s 2022 in Review:
Assisted more than 7,700 home buyers (as of August 31st) in accomplishing their homeownership goals through our home buyer assistance programs. Thanks to our incredible network of mortgage lenders and REALTORS®, we’re able to offer fixed rate interest loans, down payment assistance, and mortgage credit certificates to help make homeownership affordable for low and moderate-income families from one corner of Texas to the other.
- Financed the construction or rehabilitation of 580 rental units through our Multifamily Private Activity Bond and Texas Housing Impact Fund programs.
- Provided eight single family homes to low-to-moderate income Texans through our Affordable Communities of Texas program and Texas Housing Impact Fund.
- Provided $675,000 in financing to construct rental units in Travis County through the Affordable Housing Partnership (AHP) program. We launched AHP in 2020 in collaboration with the Health and Human Services Commission to support the construction of community integrated housing for Texans with long term health needs. To date, we’ve awarded more than $2.5 million in funding through this program.
- Awarded $1.25 million in grants to 54 nonprofit organizations across Texas through our Texas Foundations Fund (TFF) program. This year, we expanded TFF to include housing counseling services, and we launched a disaster recovery program within TFF to assist organizations providing home repairs in the wake of natural disasters.
- Offered our Housing Connection training to help organizations build capacity and meet their community’s housing needs. In 2022, we trained 36 housing professionals representing 25 organizations, and I’m proud to report that we provided a scholarship to each participant to cover training and hotel costs.
- Completed our third Texas Supportive Housing Institute which provided training and technical support to six teams in Austin developing supportive housing communities. This year we hosted the Institute in person, and we continue build upon the Institute’s success year-to-year.
- Produced seven new On the House podcast episodes to expand our outreach to lenders, REALTORS®, home buyers, and affordable housing professionals.
These accomplishments and our plans for next year can be found in our 2023 Draft Annual Action Plan, If you want to know more about what we do and how we respond to Texas’ housing needs, I would encourage you to read it. The draft plan is available for public comment until January 13, 2023.
As we move into the new year, there’s one thing that’s for certain — expect the unexpected. But I’m also certain that thanks to your partnership and support, we’re able to navigate whatever is ahead in 2023 and beyond.
