Teacher Home Loans
Teachers play a critical role in educating Texas children and preparing them to become productive members of society. TSAHC's Homes for Texas Heroes program honors teachers for their service to Texas children and families by providing them with a low, fixed-rate home loan and a grant for down payment assistance.
To qualify for a teacher home loan under the Homes for Texas Heroes Program, you must be:
employed full-time in a Texas public school as one of the following:
- Classroom teacher
- Teacher aide
- School librarian
- School counselor
- School nurse
or, employed in a Texas college or university as one of the following:
- Allied health faculty
- Nursing faculty
Down Payment Assistance for Teachers
TSAHC provides low, fixed-rate home mortgage loans to help teachers purchase a home. TSAHC also provides teachers with a grant to help with down payment assistance and closing costs.

Mortgage Credit Certificates for Teachers
Teachers who are first-time home buyers can also take advantage of TSAHC's Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) Program. With an MCC, teachers can take a portion (up to $2,000) of the annual interest paid on their mortgage as a tax credit every year. An MCC can save teachers thousands of dollars over the life of their mortgage loan.
