Veterans Home Loans

According to the most recent US Census data, there are more than 1.6 million veterans currently living in Texas, and that number could increase as soldiers return home from wars that are winding down. These brave men and women need access to programs and services that can help them fully participate in the communities they worked to protect. TSAHC's Homes for Texas Heroes program honors veterans for their service to Texas communities by providing them with a low, fixed-rate home loan and a grant for down payment assistance.

TSAHC provides low, fixed-rate home mortgage loans to help veterans purchase a home or refinance an existing mortgage loan. TSAHC also provides veterans with a grant to help with down payment assistance and closing costs.

Mortgage Credit Certificates for Veterans

Veterans who are first-time home buyers can also take advantage of TSAHC's Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) Program. With an MCC, veterans can take a portion (up to $2,000) of the annual interest paid on their mortgage as a tax credit every year. An MCC can save veterans thousands of dollars over the life of their mortgage loan.

Discounted Homes for Veterans

In 2012, TSAHC created the Affordable Communities of Texas- Veterans Housing Initiative (ACT-VET) in partnership with Bank of America and the National Community Stabilization Trust.  This program provided renovated vacant homes to U.S. military veterans who are disabled and/or low or moderate income.  Veterans meeting certain eligibility requirements could purchase a home at a discount. . A limited number of properties remain in the ACT-VET portfolio. Click here for eligibility requirements and more information about those available homes.
