June is National Homeownership Month, and to celebrate, TSAHC is doing a special blog series every Monday in June. Each Monday, TSAHC will share the story of a family or individual who used our programs to purchase a home.
And on Monday, June 29th, TSAHC will announce the five winners of our Mortgage-Free Monday raffle. Each of the lucky winners will receive one month's mortgage payment courtesy of TSAHC.
This week we feature Momi Silva. She lives in El Paso with her husband and two stepsons. TSAHC's home buyer programs helped her accomplish the dream of homeownership. We asked Momi a few questions about her home buying experience and what it means to be a first time homeowner.
1. What do you like the most about being a homeowner?
I love being able to host family and friends.
2. How did you learn about TSAHC’s home buyer programs?
Our loan officer, Gabriela Rodriguez with First Community Mortgage of El Paso, informed us of the program.
3. Please describe your experience working with your lender.
Overall, the experience was great; we felt very confident in her knowledge and trusted that she had our best interest at heart. She provided thorough answers to our questions and was available to us when needed.
4. Did you use a Realtor® to buy your home? If so, please describe your experience working with your Realtor®.
Yes, we used a Realtor®, Rene Matamoros, to buy our home. He is very knowledgeable in his field and very patient. He showed us homes that fell within our criteria and homes he thought would be of interest to us. Our realtor’s punctuality and professionalism were superb. We never felt pressured to select a house nor did we ever feel like he was in it only for the sake of making a sale. We found our dream home thanks to the countless emails he sent me and the endless showings on weekends. He was available to us whenever we had a question, wanted to view a home, or just to confirm an appointment. He exceeded our expectations.
5. What home buyer education course did you take prior to purchasing your home? How did the course help you during the home buying process?
I took the MGIC for Homebuyers home buyer education course. It explained terms in detail and defined for me those with which I wasn’t familiar. It helped prepare me for the terminology and concepts I came across during the home buying process. There were also agencies identified for debt management.
6. Why is being a homeowner important to you?
I feel it provides stability for our family.
