On Friday, October 6th, TSAHC participated in the launch of Own the HOU, a groundbreaking initiative designed to help empower people of color and provide them with the tools and resources to help them become successful homeowners. By 2025, Own the HOU aims to assist 5,000 new households with achieving homeownership while supporting existing homeowners to preserve their homes.
Led by the Houston office of Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and funded by Wells Fargo’s Wealth Opportunities Restored through Homeownership (WORTH) initiative, Own the HOU is comprised of a robust team of ten nonprofit and government housing organizations that will collaborate to address the racial homeownership gap in Harris County. TSAHC is a proud participant in this initiative, which aligns directly with our mission to provide high-quality housing opportunities to underserved Texans.
Other participants in Own the HOU include Avenue, City of Houston Housing & Community Development Department, Houston Community Land Trust, Connective, Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation, Harris County Community Services Department, Houston Habitat for Humanity, and Tejano Center for Community Concerns.
As the first step of the campaign, Own the HOU launched a new website to connect Harris County consumers with home buying resources, including a list of HUD-approved home buyer education classes. Additional website tools are coming soon, including a list of home-buying assistance options such as those provided by TSAHC. Visit www.ownthehou.org for more information.
