This week, we are spotlighting Joniel Crim, TSAHC's Homeownership Programs Director. Joniel oversees our home buyer assistance and education programs, helping thousands of Texas families become homeowners each year.
Joniel joined TSAHC in April 2016 and draws upon more than 20 years of experience in the real estate industry to effectively promote our programs to home buyers, loan officers and REALTORS®. Below is our interview with Joniel to help you get to know her a little better.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Tulsa but relocated near Mt. Rainer in Washington when my parents decided it was time to "live off the land." While living in the northwest, I became a REALTOR® and mortgage loan officer and discovered my passion for helping others achieve the dream of homeownership.
I moved to Texas in my 20s, volunteered at a local fire department and met an Austin Fireman who I went on to marry. We have five children and five grandchildren. I'm married to a firefighter, and my oldest son is a police officer, so I have a special place in my heart for those we help through our Homes for Texas Heroes Homes Loan Program.
2. What accomplishment(s) are you most proud of?
I once founded and owned a mortgage company. That gave me immeasurable experience working with some really great REALTORS® and mortgage professionals along the way. That said, raising five children has been my most challenging endeavor and accomplishment!
3. What excites you the most about working at TSAHC?
Everyone at TSAHC has such a positive professional attitude and exhibits team spirit. What excites me the most is that after 27 years in the housing industry I’ve found my dream job - I get to provide grants for down payment assistance and help people purchase a home, many first-time home buyers!
4. What do you like to do in your free time?
I love spending time with my family at home on our 93 acre ranch, landscaping, watching our four dogs play and just enjoying the serenity of country life.
5. What's your favorite song?
"Don't Stop Believing" (or anything by Journey really)
6. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Scotland or Ireland based on their sheer beauty and mild summers. I still haven't adjusted to the Texas heat!
7. If you could be a super hero, what would you want your super powers to be?
Multiplicity - the ability to clone myself so I could be in several different places at the same time like home, work and Italy. I would be called "Multiple Woman."
8. What one piece of advice would you give to your childhood self?
Do not fear failure. Only fear those that want you to fail, and distance yourself accordingly.
9. Tell us a random fact about yourself.
I love using power tools and building things. We’re building a house, and I’m enjoying doing a lot of the work on my own.
