Celebrating Fair Housing Month

April 4, 2025

Categories: Affordable Housing, Fair Housing, Homeownership, Rental Housing

The 57th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Fair Housing Act into law is April 11th. Because of this, we honor April as Fair Housing Month each year.

Expanding upon the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and formerly known as Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, this landmark piece of legislation expanded and secured protections against housing discrimination based on race, religion, national origin, disability, and family status. It also enshrines Americans’ right to rent or buy a home, obtain a mortgage, and/or purchase home insurance.

In recognition of Fair Housing Month, we share resources and information to help readers learn more about this law and the rights it protects.
