We're excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 Texas Supportive Housing Institute. If your organization is working to develop or operate permanent supportive housing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, we encourage you to apply in advance of the July 17th deadline.
Since 2020, TSAHC has partnered with the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) to deliver the Texas Supportive Housing Institute, a comprehensive capacity-building program for nonprofits, developers, service providers, and property managers working to create and operate supportive housing in their communities.
The Institute is a highly interactive program that goes beyond traditional training. Teams receive targeted technical assistance during and after the Institute as well as guidance tailored to their specific projects and challenges. The curriculum is designed to bolster the partnerships and skills that make supportive housing projects succeed in the long run: strengthening partnerships among developers, service providers, and property managers, and equipping them to work together effectively.
Over the years, we've supported cohorts in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024. Our most recent cohort included six teams from Austin, Brownsville, Dallas, Denton, Marshall, and San Antonio. Those recent graduates in combination with past graduates are projected to create more than 1,000 units of permanent supportive housing — a meaningful contribution to addressing homelessness across Texas.
Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) combines affordable housing with ongoing supportive services, and it is one of the most proven approaches to ending chronic homelessness. For people experiencing long-term or repeated homelessness, PSH provides the stable foundation they need to rebuild their lives. Research consistently shows that PSH significantly reduces returns to homelessness, emergency room visits, and involvement with the criminal justice system, making it not only a compassionate response but a cost-effective one.
Building upon the success of our place-based Institute in Austin in 2022, we will be doing another place-based Institute in the DFW metroplex. To that end, our priority markets for the 2026 Institute are Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties. These communities face significant and growing needs for supportive housing, and we're committed to helping development teams in this region build the capacity to meet them.
The 2026 Institute will use a hybrid format, combining in-person and virtual sessions to maximize both connection and flexibility for participating teams. The program kicks off with an in-person session in September 2026 and continues through a series of sessions into early 2027, concluding with an in-person finale that highlights presentations from participating teams.
The Institute is designed for multi-disciplinary teams that are actively working on a supportive housing project or are in the planning stages. Eligible teams must include a development partner, a supportive service provider partner, and a property management partner. Incomplete teams may apply as TSAHC will work with teams to identify missing partners.
Both Dedicated Supportive Housing (100% supportive housing units) and Integrated Supportive Housing (a mix of affordable and supportive housing) developments are eligible to apply. For integrated developments, a
minimum of 25% of units should be dedicated to supportive housing.
We'd like to extend our gratitude to Charles Schwab Bank, the sponsor of this year's Institute. Thanks to their generous support, the Institute is provided at no charge to participanting teams.
The application is available now, and the deadline to apply is July 17, 2026. Teams will be notified of their acceptance by August 7, 2026.
Before applying, we encourage prospective teams to review the Institute Brochure, review a presentation from CSH that provides an overview of the Institute, and watch the How to Apply video. You can also watch A Practitioner's Perspective for a firsthand look at how PSH deals are commonly done in Dallas.
