Recapping the 2025 Permanent Supportive Housing Symposium

December 12, 2025 | by Anna Orendain

Last month, TSAHC hosted its second Permanent Supportive Housing Symposium, a 1.5 day event attended by nearly 180 supportive housing developers, property managers, service providers, homelessness response professionals, and other stakeholders.

We want to give a big thank you to everyone who was able to participate in the event while also taking a look back at the Symposium for those who might not have been able to attend.

Prior to the Symposium, guests had the option of joining the Permanent Supportive Housing Academy, a day-long training provided by the Corporation for Supportive Housing, that walked attendees through the basics of permanent supportive housing.

The next day, attendees had the option of joining TSAHC staff for a tour of three Austin-area supportive housing communities: Esperanza Community, the Cady Loft Apartments, and the Bungalows at Century Park.

After the tour, this year's plenary speaker, Jeff Hobbs, started the Symposium by sharing passages from his newest book, Seeking Shelter. The book chronicles the journey of a mother in Los Angeles as she navigated life while experiencing homelessness and caring for her school-aged children. Jeff is a New York Times bestselling author whose work has earned numerous accolades.

Along with a total of three plenary sessions, Symposium attendees could fortify their supportive housing knowledge by attending breakout sessions in the following tracks:

  • Supportive housing design and development;
  • Financing for development; and
  • Supportive services and operations and service delivery.

Once again, we'd like to restate how grateful we are for every sponsorpanelist, and partner organization that helped us make our Permanent Supportive Housing Symposium a success!

As a reminder, TSAHC provides ongoing work in the homelessness reponse system by providing both the Texas Supportive Housing Institute and Permanent Supportive Housing Symposium in alternating years. The Institute provides an in-depth platform for training development teams new to supportive housing while the Symposium provides continuous learning, skill development, and networking designed to improve the design and delivery of supportive housing.
