To continue our celebration of Women's History Month, we want to recognize the work that a few of our partners in the housing industry have accomplished.

All four women spotlighted below are commendable not only for their hard work and dedication in their day-to-day careers, but also for representing their organizations in the Harris County Homeownership Collaborative (HCHC).

The members of HCHC are a group of organizations that are collaborating with LISC Houston through Wells Fargo's WORTH Initiative to support Own the HOU, an initiative intended to close the homeownership gap for people of color living in Harris County. To learn more about Own the HOU, check out our blog posts from February and last October

Learn more about their individual accomplishments below.

Gabriela Luna

As a pivotal figure at the Tejano Center for Community Concerns, Gabriela Luna has utilized her expertise and the resources provided by organizations like TSAHC to enhance her work and amplify the impact of their programs. Through initiatives like the Housing Connection training, she has been instrumental in creating a sustained network of support and opportunity for those in need.

Gabriela's leadership, compassion, and tireless advocacy are driving forces behind the positive change we see in our communities every day. Her dedication to uplifting others serves as an inspiration to us all during Women's History Month and beyond.

Kathy Payton

A Harris County native with a heart for her community, Kathy Payton leads Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation (FWCRC) with passion and purpose, spearheading transformative initiatives to revitalize Houston's historic 5th Ward. Through her leadership, FWCRC implements strategies spanning real estate development, community engagement, economic empowerment, homeownership promotion, and the preservation of arts and culture.

From residential and commercial rehabilitation to fostering community leadership and addressing service gaps, Kathy's dedication shines through in every aspect of her work. Her tireless efforts remind us that meaningful change is possible when we come together with purpose and determination.

Allison Hay

By championing affordable, sustainable building practices, Allison Hay empowers Harris County residents to build brighter futures for themselves and their families. Under her guidance, Houston Habitat for Humanity has become a beacon of hope, providing decent, affordable housing for those in need.

Allison's dedication to financial stewardship and community engagement has propelled Houston Habitat to remarkable heights. Through initiatives like the Home Improvement Mini Expo and sustainable building practices, Allison continues to lead Houston Habitat forward, making strides in creating a more resilient and equitable community for all.

Yvonne Dotie
A true pioneer at LISC Houston whose passion for serving communities has left an indelible mark on our hearts and our neighborhoods, Yvonne Dotie is a steadfast advocate for families facing housing insecurity, drawing inspiration from her own upbringing and family values.

Her tireless efforts have led to the awarding of millions in rental assistance, preventing evictions and homelessness for countless families across Houston and El Paso.
