Spotlighting Our Texas Foundations Fund Grant Program

Since launching in 2008, TSAHC has provided more than $10 million in grant funds through the Texas Foundations Fund program to support nonprofits that provide critical home repairs, supportive services, or housing counseling to very low-income Texans across the state. 

Last year, we awarded $1.24 million to 82 nonprofits, the most organizations we've ever funded. You can read about them here. Two organizations are spotlighted below: the first is a longstanding grantee in the program while the second is a more recent partner.

buckner children and family services (BCFS)

Located in Lufkin, Texas and operating as a subsidiary of Buckner International, BCFS addresses the challenge of low-income single parent families -- primarily headed by women -- at risk of homelessness through a transitional housing program called Family Pathways that focuses on higher education and offers the families the opportunity to achieve enduring self-sufficiency.

BCFS uses our grant to support the salary of a caseworker that assists families through this program by coordinating services that can include child care, affordable housing, parenting skills, counseling, family coaching, money management, mentorship, and more.

texas ramp project

The Texas Ramp Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to establish regional wheelchair ramp-building programs across Texas. The regional projects provide free ramps to older adults and others with disabilities in financial need. The ramps are built exclusively by volunteers following ADA guidelines and are safe, strong, and durable.

While most of the most of the grant funding the organization receives is geographically limited, ours is not. Thanks to our funding, Texas Ramp Project is able to provide their critically needed services in underserved areas of the state.

current grant cycle

This year, we're doing things a little different and providing grants on a first-come, first-served basis as long as there's available funding. We opened the grant cycle earlier this year, and the good news is that as of today, funding is available.

Disaster recovery grants

Within Texas Foundations Fund, we also have grants dedicated specifically to disaster recovery efforts. We still have some limited funding available within this program. These grants are limited to home repairs, and the maximum grant is $30,000 per organization. Nonprofits may request it as soon as there is a disaster declaration for their community. Please reference the program guidelines for more details.
