We periodically spotlight a staff member or partner to help our readers get to know our mission and industry a little better.

This week, we are spotlighting Kayla Gillaspy, one of TSAHC's hardworking Single Family Compliance Specialists. As an expert on TSAHC's single family programs, Kayla reviews mortgage loan documentation and responds to questions from lenders and home buyers across the state.

Below is her interview.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do here at TSAHC.

My hometown is Bryan, TX, and over the past 20 years of living in the city and its surrounding areas, Austin has certainly become my home. I live less than an hour from the heart of Austin on a small farm with my folks and 2-year-old daughter, Annie.

At TSAHC, I review requests for home buyers that need Down Payment Assistance and assist lenders with questions and issues to ensure the Homebuyer has a stress free experience.

Expand on what you like most about the work you do or working in the housing industry?

The housing industry is an eternal industry. What I like best about working for TSAHC is the genuine appreciation from both mortgage lenders and home buyers for assisting in what can sometimes feel like a crisis and helping smooth it all over.

What’s something that potential home buyers may not know about our programs?

I think one of the most common confusions is that you do not have to be a first-time home buyer to apply for our Down Payment Assistance program. Also, our Down Payment Assistance covers more than just the down payment -- it covers the closing costs too!

Tell us about what you like to do in your free time?

COVID has certainly changed my free-time, but some of my favorite things to do include enjoying live music, hiking and searching for watering holes, and spending time with my wonderful daughter, Annie.

What’s one personal and/or professional accomplishment that you are especially proud of?

The Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) exam to become a license Loan Originator was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Passing that exam was a big accomplishment for me!

What’s your favorite quote or piece of advice?

“The answer to the great question...of Life, the Universe and Everything ... is ... 42”

Which world destination has been your favorite place to travel to? Where would you like to travel to at your next opportunity?

My favorite place is Port Aransas or South Padre. I’ve never been outside the country, but I would love to see Iceland someday!

What’s your favorite book, movie, or TV show?
My favorite book is Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, my favorite movie is Almost Famous, and my favorite TV show is definitely The Office!

What’s something about you that we may not know?

I really enjoy playing piano and guitar, although I’m not very good at it 😊
