Our purpose with this blog is to share information that helps all of us confront Texas' affordable housing shortage head-on. We invite you drop by On the House every Friday as we tackle important housing issues, provide an inside look into our programs, and share other valuable resources.
“We shape our dwellings, and afterwards our dwellings shape us.”
Winston Churchill
A home is more than a place to hang our hats. It’s the foundation of our entire lives, the place that shelters us while we pursue our dreams. And for many of us, the decision to buy or rent a home can shape our financial future in a way no other investment can.
But due to rising housing prices, many Texas families cannot afford to buy a home right now.
And according to Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies, more than one third of families spend more than 30% of their income on housing,
forcing them to cut back on food, medical care or
other necessities.
As one of Texas’ largest statewide housing nonprofits, TSAHC knows how important it is for Texas families to have housing options that are both safe and affordable. And fortunately we’re not alone. Texas has an army of professionals-- lenders, Realtors, nonprofits, legislators, government entities, developers, and advocates—all working together to provide affordable housing opportunities to Texas families.
