In 2020, we introduced the most recent iteration of our blog by launching the On the House podcast by introducing ourselves and answering some frequently asked questions about our down payment assistance programs. While originally intended to be just about homeownership and the home buying process, we've expanded the content over the years to include rental housing, construction, housing policy, interviews with partners, fair housing, and more.
To date we've published 45 episodes that can all be accessed here. In honor of the podcast's 5th anniversary, we're going to share some of our most popular On the House episodes.
Believe it or not, our first episode ever remains our most popular one. That's probably because this is the episode where you can learn the basics about TSAHC and our most popular programs -- the ones that help Texans buy homes.
Stacy Lynn Schriever, one of our top loan officers, joined this episode to explain how credit scores are calculated and how you can review your credit report and improve your score.
While many of our episodes focus on tips for new home buyers, this episode spoke to homeowners who have already gone through the homebuying process and are thinking of moving on to a new home. Jamey Hodge with Guild Mortgage joined to discuss the process of becoming a repeat home buyer and how to decide whether to sell or rent out your current home.
Featuring David Danenfelzer, TSAHC's Senior Director of Development Finance, this episode delves into the development side of the industry to explain how affordable housing opportunities are created.
One of our favorite topics is dispelling myths about down payment assistance programs. In this episode, we sat down with a leading expert Sean Moss, Down Payment Resource’s Senior Vice President and Director of Operations, to debunk some common myths that home buyers hear about down payment assistance.
The Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) is one of the best-kept money-saving secrets that first-time home buyers can find. That's why we're spreading the word about the MCC and its benefits in this episode with guest Donnetta McGrew, TSAHC's MCC Compliance Manager.
We sat down with Joy Horak-Brown, President and CEO of New Hope Housing, one of the trailblazing figures in affordable housing, to talk about her decades of experience in supportive housing, the history of New Hope Housing, and their ambitous plans to deliver hundreds of new supportive housing units to Houston.
When it comes to buying a home with student loan debt, many people believe it's too difficult to even attempt. Well, we're here to let you know that it's possible. We invited Aubrey Miller with the Q&A Mortgage Team at Cardinal Financial to break down everything you need to know about applying for a mortgage when you have student loan debt.
As part of our Homeownership Month celebration in 2023, we invited Karla Mendoza, a loan officer with First Community Mortgage, to provide Spanish-speakers the basics on home buying, down payment assistance, and Mortgage Credit Certificate programs.
Guests Bryan Tony (Dallas Housing Coalition) and Todd Kercheval (Kercheval & Associates) sat down to break down Texas’ 89th Legislative Session and discuss the legislative progress made for affordable housing and what it means for the future of housing policy in Texas. This podcast was also one of the first ones to be featured with video.
We hope you will explore some of the highlights from the past 5 years, and we invite you to peruse all the 45 episodes we've recorded since our podcast launch.
